Can you or anybody help me out here via your builder contacts? I'm a long time holder and believer in FBR potential.
Mentioned it a few years ago to architect friend who is also active in sharemarket. He was cynical. With hindsight (slow progress, lost deals (Caterpillar, Brickworks etc) he was right at the time, and I have held on when should have sold at the highs, if I was clever enough!
Now that we are approaching commercialism, I shared the Dayton build video and commentary with him, expecting a more positive reaction. But no, he and a builder colleague both scoff at the lack of practicality in terms of site access and hence severe limitations. His most recent comments included:
- your brick robot looks very flash , there are very few sites that a truck of this size would be able to access without getting bogged . Concrete trucks stay on the road as they are too valuable to get bogged the cost of lost time ! Building walls is the quick and cheap part , the rest of the building process takes the time
- The process is up against precast concrete and tilt up slabs where the site has been prepared with expensive civil works.
- sites are so small and or access is limited Permission would be required to use adjoining sites for access - power lines are a problem to be overcome.
- Multi sites may work . All in all very limited use
- Sorry , but take your profit and run !"
I agree that not all sites are candidates, however we don't need to be competitive on every brick-build site, we can cherry pick where sites suit Hadrian and obviously housing estates and similar should provide easier access etc.
I seem to remember this has been debated before, but I couldn't find any detailed posts on this subject via "Advanced Search"
It would be great to other posters perspectives re the scenarios that FBR themselves foresee, as well as builders, regarding this access issue?
