if things got really,really,really,really,really bad and we did end up in a depression,the govt would have to prop up all manner of companies that were in the national interest.
They can't afford to prop up companies that have fallen on hard times in the first blush of an economic down turn.
They will need to keep some powder dry.
I agree they can't p-ss money away on handouts for beer and pokies and shopping sprees.
