Paypal is like Harvey Norman in the online appliance world. They rely on their store sales more than online so they'll protect that side of the business. More nimble online businesses eg: Amazon, kogan etc will still do very well if not better than HN in online sales. Paypal will protect their most profitable busniesses over the BNPL section but they have to offer it otherwise Afterpay etc will scoop up that part of their business. Just because Paypal is an online business doesn't mean they'll do well at all online payment options. They're very different beasts.

PayPal are a big gorilla ,have deep pockets and can undercut to buy market share of what ever they want.
