We don't have a vaccine for the common cold (also a coronavirus) so can only treat the symptoms (which fortunately rarely cause permanent illness or death). So effective treatments for COVID-19 symptoms would be one possibility.
Yes in the meantime we need to prevent surges. Mostly Australia has been reasonably successful at that. Maybe we'll all have to get used to wearing masks in public.
