Unless they can solve the merchant fee problem, all these new 'credit cards' will have to charge customer one way or the other to create revenue. These hybrid credit cards neither serve new generations nor the older ones.
PP tried to get around this merchant problem by offering its BNPL service for free effectively. If it has had to charge a premium over its existing fee, it would have to run through the obstacle of getting merchants to sign-up one by one and it knows that it has no advantage over its competitors in terms of marketing / referral. It still has the ultimate problem to solve: to get the end customers loving its product.
