I've decided to take matters into my own hands and attempt to generate some governmental interest in Cougar Energy (I know, is this guy serious?). With this in mind, I have today written to Malcolm Turnbull who has recently been voicing his support for clean energy and carbon capture. As they say; nothing ventured, nothing gained:
Dear Malcolm,
I am writing to you to bring to your attention an ASX listed company that is endeavouring to generate electricity & liquid fuels via the utilisation of Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) technology. The company in question is Cougar Energy Ltd who are led by Managing Director Dr Len Walker, commonly referred to endearingly by a vast array of industry insiders globally as the "Godfather of UCG".
As a policy driver behind the green carbon initiative and man of influence in government, it would be very much appreciated if you could peruse Cougar Energy's website (www.cougarenergy.com.au) and ASX announcements (a recent company presentation can be found at: www.cougarenergy.com.au/PDF/14July2008.pdf) to fully appreciate a company that can most definately unlock the treasure chest that is clean and cost efficient energy production for Australia for decades to come.
An extract from the website reads:
"An open letter to the people of Queensland".
Countries all over the world are looking for ways to meet future energy needs with less impact on the environment. One solution is underground coal gasification (UCG) and Australia has an unparalleled opportunity to lead the world in this clean coal technology.
Cougar Energy’s first commercial UCG energy project at Kingaroy is underway and has the potential to supply sufficient energy to power 400,000 Queensland homes for the next 30 years.
The good news is that UCG can do this with 20 - 25 per cent less CO2 emissions than conventional coal-fired power generation. As well, UCG requires only five per cent of the surface area required for coal seam gas operations. The land can also be quickly rehabilitated for farming.
Cougar Energy experts have been actively developing UCG in Queensland since the 1990s. The management of Cougar Energy has more than 25 years of experience in UCG and 10 years ago safely completed a successful trial of the technology in Chinchilla.
Cougar Energy commends the Queensland Government for continuing to support all mining companies and petroleum producers to find the right commercial, environmental and energy solutions for Queensland.
The future energy needs of Queensland are the priority, with competing interests co-existing for the broader benefit of Queensland and Australia.
Dr. Len Walker Managing Director
I understand that you have recently placed your backing behind a company called ZeroGen who are pursuing a similar but in my opinion less efficient energy generation method of carbon capture & storage (CCS). I sincerely hope that after reading about Cougar Energy Ltd's projects that you could support & communicate the virtues of their business model and activities to your colleagues in government as I vehemently believe that Cougar Energy Ltd can be Australia's ultimate saviour in it's pursuit of cost effective, environmentally friendly energy production & carbon capture if afforded the financial and governmental support required to attain these goals.
Armed with sufficient support, commercialisation of Cougar Energy Ltd's operations could be expedited to achieve the aims of clean energy supply for Queensland homes and businesses initially, and then subsequently rolled out into Australia's other states.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hopefully hearing from you in the near future.
Kind Regards,
