Loo shorters should be banned for all shares not just financial sector, they make good things not so good and bad things worse.
But LEI I don't think it's just shorters, it is LEI's position in Dubai, the exposure is so scary but LEI board is covering it, this is why the institution investors are dumping it (and your are right, the shorters as well).
I am watching LEI for a while and always found it is too early to get in.
