Yes, I agree with much of what you say GrumpyMonkey ... I am in my 60's and whilst all the technical stuff needs to be reported - I agree, of course, the nomenclature and "speak" is technical and bulky (like rocks!) and "what it means" in simple English is a craft also required and useful here. Simple words for example, like "beneath" are never used, but down plunge (or whatever it is ) - the jargon is only employed.
I liken this topic to being at a lecture or listening to somebody explain something they understand intimately, but you the listener, don't. Their capacity to simplify yet still retain the meaning is a skill and not many in truth, have it. It's about use of language and understanding the listener's limitations. Helmenesh, here, for example is skilled in this area as are a few others ... But announcements/reports full of jargon can be difficult for the lay person to follow, but importantly, is this "GOOD" or "BLOODY FANTASTIC!" is in no way conveyed. I guess the company may say "well, we are required to provide the facts and not "interpret" them" ("for dummies") for our readers ... Fair enough, and I get that too ...
Cheers,
Kip
