Not sure I understand. If I buy a stock thinking it's undervalued is identical to a short seller selling a stock because they think it's overvalued. Nothing more and nothing less. In fact, it's harder to short sell because the markets generally go up so if someone has the balls to short sell an overvalued stock then they deserve all the profits associated with that trade.
Sometimes the market gets ahead of itself and if someone bought too high then that's their mistake. No clue how you can twist this into being predatory and evil. The only time when I'd agree is when short sellers attack a market that's on it's way down but as already noted, regulators tend to step in.
