Child thrown from West Gate bridge on ramp at Spotswood

UPDATE 10.41: A SEARCH is on for a man believed to have thrown a little girl from the West Gate Bridge this morning before driving off.
The girl, believed to be five years old, was pulled from the water by water police close to the pumping station at Spotswood about 9.30am.
She has been flown to the Royal Children's Hospital in a critical condition.
Witnesses told police they saw a man stop on an inbound lane near the top of the West Gate.
He threw the child into the waters below and then drove off, they said.
The police homicide unit is expected to arrive at the scene soon.
Police are investigating how the incident happened.
