While the short sellers were piling pressure on Vaughan Bowen's acquisition-hungry Uniti Group last week, another big name in the telco sector took it as a chance to get set in the company.

It is understood NEXTDC and PIPE Networks founder Bevan Slattery scooped up about 5 million Uniti shares in the past fortnight or so at about $1.30 a pop.
