I am wondering why there isn’t more discussion about the current estimates/understanding of IFR, and how the initial fearmongering and projections were massively overcooked....?
I am wondering why we ( “the world” ) doesn’t normally enforce all these restrictions and lockdowns to prevent deaths from flu etc, considering that the IFR is not massively worse in this case - and where it is significant (specific portions of the population), why we don’t focus on those particularly vulnerable instead of this blanket control nonsense we are seeing.
Imo effectively locking up people, with no evidence that they have any illness to spread, under the guise of “their own safety” is utter nonsense. The particularly vulnerable should be made aware of the risks, take appropriate precautions to avoid exposure, and be afforded appropriate support and protection etc.
Crippling the livelihoods of millions and doing untold other damage to the economy and health via blanket rules and restrictions is ludicrous - hopefully the proper statistics will show themselves, as they are starting to already, and prove these measures are indeed a sledgehammer to crack a walnut.
I’m sure some of them “in charge” have good intent, but they don’t seem to be looking too hard for facts and data to substantiate their decisions and actions ! The mind boggles.
Also concerning is the fact that they do not at all seem to be factoring in the cost (in person-years) of lost life or reduction in quality of life, when weighing up the effects of restrictions vs the more direct “saving” of lives by slowing the spread of the virus. This is a basic and fundamental economic principle that is widely used in risk assessment processes, yet has had little mention and apparently is largely ignored. Those experts that have mentioned it, and commented that the effects of the restrictions are likely worse than the virus, have been basically ignored from what I have seen. The “health expert” puppets have been running the country?!
Scomo and co need to factor in broader expert opinion and facts and data, and do their job by properly weighing these issues and taking some responsibility - instead of “its based on what the health advice says”. Is that what we want - everyone “healthy” and the economy dead? Lol. It’s always a balancing act of many factors and you’re expected to manage that appropriately!!
And no, sending cops out to hassle people for putting their bins out without a mask on, or after some arbitrary and nonsense curfew, is utter BS and in no way in the interests of society. What an absolute joke.
The whole world is watching - and they are equally disgusted btw!
/rant over !
