There is a well known phenomenon in psychology, where a person who tells lies frequently enough, believes that what they are saying is true. This is irrespective of the fact that there exists irresistable proof that the person is lying.
A lie is a lie, is a lie. It may be made to seem plausible, but it is still a lie.
