Effect of Hydroxychloroquine in Hospitalized Patients with COVID-19: Preliminary results from a multi-centre, randomized, controlled trial. Running title: Hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 – Preliminary Report
Eligible and consenting patients were 111 assigned in a ratio of 2:1 to either usual standard of care or usual standard of care plus 112 hydroxychloroquine or one of the other available treatment arms (see Supplementary Appendix) 113 using web-based simple (unstratified) randomization with allocation concealment. Patients 114 allocated to hydroxychloroquine sulfate (200mg tablet containing 155mg base equivalent) 115 received a loading dose of 4 tablets (800 mg) at zero and 6 hours, followed by 2 tablets (400 116 mg) starting at 12 hours after the initial dose and then every 12 hours for the next 9 days or until discharge (whichever occurred earlier) (see Supplementary Appendix). 15 117 Allocated treatment 118 was prescribed by the attending clinician. Participants and local study staff were not blinded to 119 the allocated treatment.
