To my mind the link is the similar geology of all 3 sites. They all have a marine sediment overlaying a cambrian basement with the possibility of porphyry style Cu and Ag mineralisation. With recent finds at Stavely and St Arnaud - with deeper veins of mineralisation at St Arnaud than had been previously mined, I think it is very sensible of APG to have a further look for gold. When I think of the size of the Murray Basin v's the distance between these 3 sites - it's got to deserve further exploration...
I wouldn't have a clue where further gold exploration fits into their priorities. Bit of a left-fielder. However they have had a remarkable 2008 and I'm prepared to cut them some slack. Hopefully the main players are back now refreshed after a well deserved long break.
