Germany has always been a powerhouse with a massive ecomony and a huge domestic market for all of its products.
They are very proud of their superb manufacturing and produce high quality goods.
You can't compare our self centred, greedy Pommy dominated unions with their efficiency in any way.
The Australian unions have been too often lead by dictatorial buffoons in a class war environment (us and them) with self interest at the forefront (much like jumped up Hitlers). I seen them first hand.
Simply put, the unions with their excessive wage demands have priced Australia out of manufacturing and it will only return if we can compete by lower costs. That will only happen if, as may be the case, we realise that apart from mining and farming we are actually a third world country.
Great place to live, but thanks to decades of greed and excessive wage levels we have become a fools paradise. You just don't get it.
