I spoke jointly to John Jacoby and Kevin Somes (auditor) at the meeting, while waiting for poll results. It was very interesting.......
BHP don't have any problem with land mines, and neither did Longonjo. I believe the risk is similar to having a car accident here - but was 'dealt with' and is more of an excuse than a severe problem.
Smyth told the meeting that they walked away from the minerals to try and get the oil - and from what I can understand, Jacoby decided to walk away from CVI around that time.
When the oil didn't work, Smyth said "I don't know why you're all so keen on the oil, it would have cost a fortune and the minerals and refinery are much better"
So there is a long history of Smyth changing his mind, or forgetting what he's told shareholders in the emails.
