An FJ Holden is all you need to get from A to B. The gramophone produced sound. Horse hair was quite adequate for sofa fill. etc etc.
The internet itself came in for stick when it became available to the masses ... what could it offer that isn't already available. Yet here we are using computers to look at shares, communicate on discussion forums, consult Professor Google, make social connections, etc.
Why more bandwidth ...because the tech that needs it is hungry. The future tech will need it. We will personally need it or lose the ability to use that tech, just like when the Hayes modems became redundant and archaic; like the unsupported apps on your early generation phone.
You can't stop the progress and even if you want to become a grumpy old man/woman waxing lyrical about the old daze, there's far more people who want to embrace change.
Even my NBN connection speed is starting to show annoying download and upload speeds with CAD files that are growing in size as more detail and resolution are being added to drawings.
