I'm in Japan at the moment and it IS bad! Homelessness is skyrocketing, the most vulnerable workers, foreigners and temp staffers , have mostly already been laid off. People in general are very worried and not consuming which in turn hastens the downward spiral. The Govt is a joke and has no answers as it is the same Govt from the past 60 years so it is just recycling old ideas that haven't worked before and won't work this time IMO. So yes the strong yen is contradictory to the actual outlook here.
