Hmmm. I may be able to clarify 2 points I made in an earlier post: 1) I understand from the Battery Day talk by Musk that they plan to use "an elastic ion-conducting polymer coating" in their anodes.
All this means is that the polymer allows certain ions (charged particles) to flow through it. In a LIB it is necessary for the Li+ ions to migrate from the anode to the cathode during discharge and to retrace this path during charging. If the polymer did not allow this, it would be useless for a LIB. As we know our polymer works very well with Li ion anodes this is not a problem. (Note to self: in future; read more details before posting!!)
Point 3: In reply to Pharvest; no, of course I didn't mean Panasonic and others would stop supply next week. But Tesla have flagged that they are aiming to be vertically integrated at some point in the future. When that will be, I certainly don't know. But I guess Panasonic reckon there is still good money to be made until that time comes.
So, to conclude, it is only the point about Tesla using raw metallic Si that is creating doubts for me now.
