Because 99% of investors are sheep. As soon as a wolf enters the yard, they run for the exits. There is no logic in these situations. Only fear and a clear lack of ability of correctly valuating a listed company: this assessment is for value investors, that is. On the other hand, day traders are sheep on steroids who are quicker to run for the exits if things go south.

I stayed away from this one as I believe that the FDA is a political, pro-American, pro-business, body, whose interests are predominantly protecting the large companies and industries operating with the USA, rather than the health of Americans: I mean look at their approach to animal food, glyphosate (Monsanto), the meat industry, and so on.
