the ethical atheists 10 commandments

1. Thou SHALT NOT believe all thou art told - "even that which is told to you by ethical athiests and secular humanists" Correct, always think for yourself in fact DYOR

2. Thou SHALT seek knowledge and truth constantly - "what is truth and how do we know we know?" seeking evidence, testing evidence repeatedly that it fits a theory is the basis of science. For example, there is unlimited evidence of evolution, but no evidence of creation.

3. Thou SHALT educate thy fellow man in the Laws of Science - "why and for what purpose?" Do you really want to go back to the dark ages? Here's and example: the theory that infections can be prevented by hygienic practices has been proven scientifically and is a great benefit to mankind particularly poorer uneducated peoples. And that is just one example of scientific laws at work.


4. Thou SHALT NOT forget the atrocities committed in the name of god- "and also those committed in the name of athiesm by Stalin, Lenin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Mao etc." No, we should not forget the atrocities committed by the above, but they were not committed in the name of atheism, rather in the name of racial/cultural superiority and sheer callous inhumanity, not the traits of the ethical atheist.



5. Thou SHALT leave valuable contributions for future generations - "Why and for who?" For all humankind. Are you implying that some peoples deserve better things in the future and others dont? Havent you heard of love thy neighbour?


6. Thou SHALT live in peace with thy fellow man - "Why?" In the words of John MacEnroe 'surely you can't be serious?'

7. Thou SHALT live this one life thou hast to its fullest -"even if it is at the expense of your fellow man and for your own individual greed at the expense of others." you really are showing a short attention span. Try reading # 5 and # 6 again.


8. Thou SHALT follow a Personal Code of Ethics - "like Hitler, Stalin and pol Pot did?" Again, these were inhuman despots not ethical atheists, and they certainly were not crusading in the 'name of atheism'.

9. Thou SHALT maintain a strict separation between Church and State - "what does this mean anyway." It means that a set of religious principles should not be forced on all citizens, particularly if certain citizens choose not to follow that religion or choose no religion.

10. Thou SHALT support those who follow these commandments- "who made these commandments are who are they that I should believe what they tell me?" See the website. You certainly dont have to follow these commandments, and one thing is for sure, that you wont be persecuted if you choose not to follow them.
