virginiak,
After the market has fallen about 50% some punters who own WES shares may be a little tapped out. I was just suggesting that those who were not going to take up their entitlement could sell their shares today for say $16.25 and re-buy them for $13.50 (really $14 because ex div entitlement) and make a profit.
My point was this is a very viable option because WES have managed the release of information to support the price at the right time. Given that some pundits were predicting only a 15% take up of the offer I would expect this to be a fairly common strategy with the current healthy price premium.
As far as a shareholder ever having to do anything, well of course it is always about what you choose to do based on your view of the future and your credit providers view of your financial health.
