Unfortunately there is a strong opposition. The company should be more transparent about how it is going to deal with it. It looks like a showstopper to me now. Disappointing as it is.
The mayor of Cáceres, Salaya, says -through my dead body only- and so do most of the locals and politicians. Officials of Extremadura province also said they will not push it against the will of locals. EU said the same. Unfortunately, it's too close to the city centre. Moreover, they discovered another similar resource nearby - Cañaveral - that is not close to towns and everyone seems to be supporting that one to go ahead instead. Owned by a Spanish company.
The only hope now is that pandemics and its financial impact might change the attitude of locals, but not giving it high chances...
