Note todays' ann'mnt is only about the tonnage. So here's a quick translation of the report.
1) They've basically calculated the area the coal covers in the basin extending from NT-SA.
2) Total area is 28442 sqkm
3) We know the basin is shallow at 1 end & deepens out to the other end, so the coal thickness varies from 7m to 138m. They've used an average thickness of 31.8m
4) Specific gravity of coal is 1.3
5) Total tonnage: 28442*31.8*1.3 = 1.175 trillion tons.
This tonange will then be extrapolated to give us the gas volume estimates or TCF equivalent or the coal footprint in their area. So there should b more to come as knowing the tonnage is only part A of the answer.
