I would have thought this would be a positive for SMX. The Euro Pacific issue is not really relevant to provenance of gold, but it will highlight Perth Mint needs to use tech to boost its credibility. Once SMX is used to mark gold it would be somewhat straightforward to tokenise the ownership which could help avoid Euro Pacific like allegations with stricter KYC/AML policies.
