In my opinion. That would be the end phase of a trade battle. You would see this coming a mile off. Months if not a couple of years in advance. The China issue is grabbing headlines, but post election they will make a deal. Both USA and China want a deal. And I doubt we are in the middle. Also it would mean China would lose any future international investor, damaging the booming and influential growing middle class. You really think they would risk that?
