The humour is supposed to be in the weird and wonderful true origins of these words. Kind of defeats the purpose when the purported origins are a bunch of made up cr*p.
People will believe anything they read on the internet, so what I've written is neither here nor there anyway.
Dave will still tell his mate Jim down at the pub that they used to bake whistles into beer mugs so they could whistle when they wanted another drink, and Jim will think that is an amazing fact and have a laff.
