Alan Joyce, CEO is now suggesting UK and USA will be off the radar until 'late 2021'. It's only a guess from him, as even with 'inside information' from government, it's a moveable feast.
I am in the school that says these expensive to operate and hard to profitably fill 12 A380s will never fly again for QAN, and will end up in the airline scrapyard at some Californian location.
The USA route used to be the most profitable international one for QAN, but in recent years there's been much more competition: not just Air NZ via Auckland, but American Airlines, Delta, United Airlines and the now no more Virgin Australia international long distance flights, plus indirect one stop options such as Hawaiian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Philippine Airlines, part-Qantas owned Fiji Airways...a long list.
