Corruption has been rife in Aus for over 220 years. The Rum economy is the earliest mainstream example.
Bob Bottom was a SMH journo who wrote a series of books on corruption in Aus, particularly focussed on NSW during the Askin and Wran years. The Royal Commissions we've had in NSW, Qld and Vic demonstrated that corruption is indeed entrenched in Aus institutions. Now, more recently, we've had the Financial RC showing serious corruption in all sectors of the Aus system. It was interesting how the issues related to financial planners, some of which are genuine but many are merely investment plan salespeople, was swept under the carpet when the scammers whinged about losing their lucrative trade.
The only difference between corruption in Aus and in developing nations is that in Aus, US, UK etc corruption is covered up better.
