it depends on what your investment / trading style is.
if you're a trader then using leverage is ok as long as you use your stops and appropriate risk management.
if investing longer term or buy & hold and using a margin loan - then you either 1 have to be pretty sure you're not going to get a margin call or 2 be prepared to top it up when you do...
definitely beneficial but the risk management strategy should apply to take into consideration these factors.
