I think the ASX and ASIC could embrace these short reports by creating a level playing field for everybody. It is ridiculous that our laws make it dangerous for these reports to be published in Australia, and for the authors to be located here in Australia. There could be a process for lodging short reports that allows for a trading halt prior to an initial response (and maybe even time for analyst responses to be publicised, not that they will always be helpful), and protects the authors from endless litigation, and allows retail shareholders to access the report legally. Freedom of speech, with protection from litigation could be the carrot - would require all of the states to fall into line). Our market might just get used to these reports and not over-react like in the case of CTD and RFF. Better than over-reacting and retail losing as they are less likely to be capable of analysing the report.
