The speed with which Australia combated the virus was due to the Federal Government quickly ensuring that flights ceased from overseas, this occurring with communist China from February 2020, and effective 'contact tracing' systems in all states except Victoria.

Ongoing border closures for political reasons are doing immense harm to numerous sectors, including hospitality, retail, passenger transport and professional services. Young Aussies are seeing career prospects diminish, and unemployment in Queensland is high at 7.7 per cent (which probably underestimates it due to the ABS definition of what constitutes an 'employed person').

Small and medium sized businesses are feeling the pinch in the eastern states, and some won't survive into June 2021.

Premiers refusing to open State borders is extremely selfish. We have to learn to live with this virus just as we have others over the years.

The Premiers' stubbornness is hurting QAN and competitors. I may not like Mr Joyce much but he's on the money when he calls these closed borders 'ridiculous'.
