Just can't give your kid $5 to run over the road to grab a milk/bread etc. Losing $5 isn't much but if they lost a card could be annoying, also they can't spend more then that $5. May need some sort of stored value card. Also how do you pay a kid who may not have a bank account for help/small job? Some events (such as picnic race meetings) in remote areas may not have access to communications etc. Lots of reasons for having some type of portable instant payment system, even if it is for discretion.
