We have the UK Liverpool mass pop testing underway (1st stage of 3-6mth+ UK Operation Moonshot programme)

- gov programme to introduce same day, mass testing for COVID-19, as a way of enabling large gatherings of people to take place in that country while maintaining control over the virus. According to the British Medical Journal, the programme aims to deliver 10 million tests per day by 2021 (which has been ridiculed since it will reportedly cost £10B+ to deliver annually + relies on 'future diagnostics advancements that are yet to be developed')

- UK gov paid £323m (~AU$584m! crikey!) for the OptiGene Lamp RT-PCR and lateral flow RDT versions for current tests. That's 600 Genie HT machines + 90m testing kits and chemicals. Each machine can reportedly deliver up to 200 tests an hour.

- The two test options: rapid Direct RT-Lamp, where a saliva sample is added straight to the machine after being made safe by heating, and the RNA Lamp, which takes longer to process because the nucleic acid has to be extracted from the sample
