I understand the historical precedents. I used to stand and watch the Anzac Parade year after year as a kid. Shed a tear at many a Dawn Service as the last post sounds. Sat and listened to diggers, remember when they were our neighbours and workmates? Survivors of the Burma railway and the WW1 killing fields. They could be more irreverent than our modern selves.
Maybe the historical precedents are less important now. Maybe this next generation sees the hypocrisy of those who drape themselves in the flag but care less for their fellow countrymen than their own back pocket. Those who use false patriotism to win political causes that harm the nation's future. Those who side with modern fascism but ignore that our fallen often died in the fight against it.
Not pointing at you pints. Not at all.
