Interesting take. I don't think the playbook has ever changed for the rightwing once it is seduced towards its far right fringe. Right back to Julius Caesar. Its just a kind of mania which tries to exalt someone or something over the people. Reasoning gets switched off and those who don't agree are oppressed. I see those same signs even in good ol' Oz as you suggest. We need to take back our democracy for The People and recognise the corruption of non-democratic global influence.
Its also not lost on me the risk of leftwing authoritarianism but that is hardly the current problem.
