problem with that @ttward is that that subsidy money must come from somewhere. current taxes on fuel is a source of income for the country, so whilst busy removing the use of fuel across the nation to goto EV's, and paying people to do so, they will lose their income, so it will eventually come back to bite you in time.
also, if cars are recharged at home, from the grid, that power comes from the grid i.e. coal. Currently they are looking to replace coal but already have a large amount of power capacity to need to meet there so add electric cars to that as well and you have a dilemma keeping up with that too. Nothing can happen so soon, and everything requires finance. Just look at the illegal cigarette market, they could dump the taxes on cigarettes and see the illegal trade come to a grinding halt and then that money would not pass into more illicit drug markets but if they dump those taxes, the country again loses an income.
one thing I do note about people that want to go 'all green' is that they do not always consider the complete circle. without the understanding of that circle, it will never work without issues.
