Bloodwynch - QBE appears to have only 5.3% of its holdings in listed equity. I'd say the lowering of investment income has more to do with interest rates tumbling around the world than the vagaries of the equity market.
Their investment income should improve given we've had the big losses in equities now, and rates should improve over time.
QBE 2008 investor presentation:
"Listed equity holdings at year end of 5.3% of total investments and cash (2007: 6.6%)"
I believe they are a well managed company and they know what they are doing.
