Hi Belrose . You hit the nail on its head with your revelation that the YOU SHOULD NEVER RELY on THE PER's that appear in the MEDIA . The best way is to go to company's announcements ( www.asx.com.au ) and look for an announcement such as "Appendix 3B ..." , then dbl click on its "text" definition . You'll then see the form its declaring on paragraph 8 the latest updated number of issued ordinary stocks , and in # 9 the total unlisted options .
Now you need to find the latest earning ( NPAT ) and EPS .This is tricky . Companies MUST report twice a year with full audited accounting statements . Use these reports always to determine the company's performance . The NPAT there is HISTORIC in a range of 6 months apart . It is vital to merge both reports . If your timing is closer to the end of the period you must try to examine how the company has been trading etc . Remember what you see in the media and in various internet sites are historical numbers of the recent 2 halve yearly reports, which in a highly changing n growing companies could be far from the new truth .
