Green gas to be produced at Sydney Water plant in an Australian first
Sydney Water will generate the renewable gas biomethane for the first time in Australia which will see thousands of homes in NSW using green gas for cooking, heating and hot water.
Energy infrastructure company Jemena has signed an agreement with Sydney Water to produce biomethane - a renewable gas from organic material that can be blended with natural gas.

The biomethane, to be produced at the Malabar Waste Treatment Plant in south Sydney, will be injected into Jemena’s existing gas distribution network, powering about 6300 Sydney homes.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison wants a "gas-led recovery" from the coronavirus recession and will open up new gas supplies and back the construction of a gas-fired power station as part of the plan.
