If Telstra decided to go it alone then why should the shareholders be suing the government?
If they were worried the govt would legislate to split up the business then why not submit their proposal with the provisio that the proposal only stands subject to conditions X, Y and Z? I have dealt with many contracts at my work and am constantly winning jobs that have conditions attached.
They can compete on price. They choose not to. As more Australians get net-savvy they will lose more and more customers who are realising there is more than one major tel co in town.
It seems to me they have stuffed up. I'm not saying it's a good thing, but I'm saying they don't have any grounds to sue the government (not yet anyway!)
Just like the car companies the government can't let this giant fall but they won't baby it either.
