Agreed.
They bought Colonial at the top of the cycle, and paid a high price for it.
IMHO, the high margins in funds management value chain are in distribution, and evaluation (ie. ratings, reviews, etc)
CBA could have, and still could, concurrent to their Colonial strategy start a number of different brands that target specific niche markets/demographics.
Comsec was established for just this reason, imho. It privides CBA with a large captive audience to sell its funds management products.
