Siamese, I think your missing the point of what charting is. Its a GUIDE. Surely a false breakout or lets call it a "stuff up" in the chart, and then falling back into its pattern is better than the share price plummeting into oblivion. Charting is never an exact science and sooner or later EVERY stock will fall out of its pattern. Every chartist will admit this openly. So I dont see how when a stock has a false breakout, that it must mean the chartist was way off. Call it unpredictable volatility. Every stock has it, chartist have simply put a name on it.
