So it sounds like the company is absolutely not obligated to Western Digital and that Drs. Wilbert was head hunted for this exact reason, ie: to open up the sales conversation runway to other interested parties all around the globe (including SMIC/ China if they so choose).
And that Wilberts previous high value hardware industry exits will boost the already strong VC acquisition mind of Jim Dorian. Wilberts knowledge sounds more tailored and niche to this sector than does Jims broader knowledge of the industry.

And like I have suspected for about a year now...
What they have today could warrant an acquisition - as confirmed by directors in todays AGM.
But greater values can be achieved by seeing this through as far as possible - the data collected at later stages of development is better than that collected at earlier stages (as can be evidenced in the market announcements where the company almost always without fail confirms that each successive wafer lot is better than the last).

Bring on the next wafers in a couple weeks!

Bring on the chips early next year.
