    this thread is very interesting. And I didn't know about Google News Alerts..now I will have to go and work that out :)
    As far as the parliamentary link from last November goes hmmmm.
    Dr Ottaviano was at a standing committee of economics meeting about the gas explosion at Varanus Island and how to diversify from the reliance on gas.
    He speaks very well... for ppl who don't want to go the link this is what I've picked up;
    CNM's Northern Hemisphere partner: EDF world's largest power company.
    He points out that in somewhere like Portugal CNM would be paid gazillions for the clean wave energy they could produce
    and that the analyst they are using to prepare their reports is the same one used by the British Government..and this analyst reckons wave energy in the Southern Hemisphere is an even more brilliant potential than in the Northern Hemisphere..
    hmm he does mention the turbines and that they are made in Switzerland.
    Goes on to say the demo model in Fremantle has been producing power and desalinated sea water for almost 3 years and that this kind of unit is the only one in the world that can produce 100% zero emission desalinated seawater.
    Hmm then he seems to say the ALbany site is definitely a goer and the aim is to be connected to the grid in 2011......

    (But then all the other sites have now become available?? IS there going to be a bidding war or lots of demonstration plants???) (And why not ROttnest Island which needs the water?)

    ....it really is a good link butcherboy :)
    He goes on to say

    "This will be one of the few mass-producible power station technologies in the world, irrespective of whether it is renewable or fossil fuel powered. So, for us, the more units we have, the larger the scale—the closer we get to 500,000 megawatts in storm capacity around Australia, around the world—the cheaper this will become. So within five to 10 years it will be gas competitive. Beyond that is probably coal, certainly helped by the fact that coal, presumably, will also be getting more expensive during that period as well"
