A resounding and historic win for Anna Bligh. Today's p12 of the Sunday Mail (Qld).
Uranium no vote-puller
The issue of uranium mining failed to sway the Mount Isa electorate, with Labor MP Betty Kiernan easily winning a second term.
Ms Kiernan, 53, won her seat despite a full-blooded effort by the LNP to gain support in the electorate through a push for uranium mining.
Late last night with 63% of the vote counted, Labor had 52% of the vote. Ms Kiernan said she was delighted to have won again. 'I feel absolutely fantastic. I am also delighted to be part of the Labor Government led by the first elected female premier, Anna Bligh.'
