Too many lies, that's reason #1. (eg radiation suits, massive discovery etc., you know them all.)

Captain Blood abandoning a sinking ship = reason #2.

Promised drill results never materialised. Reason #3.

Chinese allegedly looking for huge aluminium deposits went home without any plans forthcoming. Reason #4.

And last not least : My gut feeling which has kept me in comfort and bread for the last 40 years. :)
