Its about protecting the environment in a situation where native vegetation is cleared for an approved activity like drilling or mining for instance. That vegetation area has to be offset or substituted by land planted or containing native forest. That makes forest land a commodity like water rights to be bought and sold to protect the environment. DTM has a bank of offsets in place so it is not necessary to obtain vegetation offsets for their operations. They could also sell them.
