Interesting thoughts wolfy but I would not be so sure. I do think that the US economy is not in a good fundamental position due to credit etc but one should not under-estimate the power of Wall Street and London. These guys no doubt have a lot of IOUs out there and I think they will be able to juggle it down to prevent meltdown. They were able to keep the Asian markets alive up to the Hong Kong handover when they knew that it had to stop long before the event. After the HK handover they let it dive into the Asian financial crisis.

There will be too much at stake to allow it to all tank badly.
